In the Group

In our Social Skills group this year we have aligned our classroom management style with Michelle Garcia Winner's "Social Thinking." Here are two quick ideas that help remind students to participate and stay on task.

1. Posted on our wall is the "expected" behaviors poster.

We also use a "in the group" visual to help the students remember to follow the expected behaviors for the day. If they do not "follow the plan" and participate, their name is taken out of the group and they have a break (away from the group.)

Both have helped to keep students on task and to encourage them to follow through with activities (even when its not preferred ). I feel these visuals have reduced some power struggles throughout the year.  Hope they work in your classroom. Let us know your result.
