Book Of The Week: If I Were A Jungle Animal

If I Were A Jungle Animal by Tom and Amanda Ellery

Summary: Morton is easily bored playing baseball, especially in the outfield. His imagination starts running wild...literally!  Morton just can't pay attention to the game.  His mind takes him to a place far away from the field.  The jungle!

The vocabulary in this book is not very challenging which provides a great opportunity to focus on describing Morton's character.  He is: creative, distractible, imaginative, and a daydreamer.  Idioms such as heading the clouds or out to lunch would also be great ways to introduce figurative language.

Questions:
Who is this story about?
Where is Morton?
What is he doing?
Why is he having a hard time paying attention?  Share a time when you had a hard time paying attention.
Do you think Morton's teammates knew he was daydreaming?  Why do you think that?
What do you daydream about?
