Today in our
social skills class, we talked about tone of voice. More specifically we
talked about how tone can mean much more than the words we use. We introduced this topic by showing this
quick, one minute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD7rVRlnrJI. (Please note that you may want to stop the
video at at :36 and resume at :40. A
quick preview may be a good idea to make sure this is something you would want
to show…it only takes a minute!)
To put the idea to
the test, we gave multiple one-word statements and asked the students to say them using one of five different tones.
The other students were asked to guess which tone was used, by showing a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 on their finger(s). They loved this activity, so we thought we
would share it with you! Your Tone Of Voice Is More Than The Words You Use. Our next step
is to discuss how others can have thoughts about us when we use a tone that
does not match the words we chose. We
are going to introduce this idea with Winnie The Pooh: The “New” Eeyore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k_cVLHEIDI
We hope you find this activity useful!
