VOCABULARY
MATCH: Target words are taken from the activities within the language pack. Students match the vocabulary word on
the cone to its definition on the scoop of ice cream.
THE HISTORY OF
ICE CREAM: Students read “The History of Ice Cream” summary and
then sort 10 events, some of which are important events and some of which are not important events. Then, students place the important events on the
timeline. Students label dates on “The
History of Ice Cream” timeline.
ICE CREAM IN A
BAG: Follow the recipe to make ice cream in a bag. Once finished, ask the inferencing/reasoning
questions.
COMPARE AND
CONTRAST: Students compare/contrast the recipe for ice
cream in a bag with their favorite ice cream.
PERSUASIVE
WRITING: Students fill out the graphic organizer and transfer
their writing to the letter template.
Students try to persuade their principal to serve their favorite dessert
at school.
SEQUENCING: Students sequence how to make their favorite dessert
OR retell how to make ice cream in a bag.
GIVING
COMPLIMENTS: Write each student’s name on the ice cream cone. Provide each student with one scoop of ice
cream (for each student in the group).
Ask them to write something they like or admire about each student. Put the ice cream cones together and secure
with tape, glue, or by laminating.
We are excited about this summer pack. Let us know what you think!
